“It’s hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember” – Unknown
Today would be Jim’s 63rd birthday and it feels good to remember all of the laughs and smiles that he gave us. Jim embodied love and selfless giving. When a group of friends and I sat down to think of a way to honor his legacy, we wanted to recognize his way of truly seeing another’s need and responding with appropriate action. With that in mind, The Canary Fund was born in 2019 with the idea that we would provide seed grants to individuals who see and creatively respond to unmet needs in their communities. We would support compassionate & passionate people who unleash goodness to make their communities more just and sustainable places.
The Canary Fund provides individuals with seed grants between $1,500 and $5,000. Since January 2020, over $35,000 in seed grants were awarded to 20+ individuals. These seed grants are an important way to support individuals and community groups that aren’t necessarily recognized as registered or established organizations, helping to take their early-stage projects to the next level.
On his birthday, please consider a one-time donation or recurring monthly gift to The Canary Fund as a gift in Jim’s memory. To do so, click the “DONATE” button below - you will be directed to our community partner’s website, The Pollination Project, which acts as our fiscal agent.
